Piracy Suit Lost by Yahoo!
Christmas and the Holidays will come with a bitter taste for Yahoo! China, as it has just lost the suit filed against it by the IFPI, representing companies including Warner Music Group Corp., Sony BMG and Universal Vivendi, for violating copyrights because of links between its search engine and Web sites with 229 illegally copied songs.
This comes on the heels of China’s changing its laws on enforcement of copyrights and other intellectual property that gave Yahoo! a 27 thousand dollars fine, in April, for the same charges. That’s bad luck, Baidu.com, a Chinese search engine, was sued under the new system and was charged with one million Yuan when it lost the trial.
The International Federation of Pornographic Industries came with the latest news about the trial and, so far, the Court officials would not confirm the report. The company that manages Yahoo! China’s arm, Alibaba.com had nothing to say on the matter through the voice of its spokesperson, Porter Erisman, but later on, he acknowledged that Yahoo! had been hoping to strike a deal with the music companies to create a licensed download service.
At the moment the suit was filed, Yahoo was actually in the middle of negotiating with the companies and the talks were suspended pending the ruling of the court. Erisman highlighted that the company had hoped that the latest court ruling would "add clarity" and allow the talks to resume. "We've always said our ultimate goal is to cooperate with the record labels", Erisman said. "Our goal is to protect and support the intellectual property rights of all publishers."
Joe McDonald of the Associated Press states that "China is a leading source of pirated copies of music, movies and other goods. Operators of pirate Web sites offer music, games and other services to attract users and make money from advertising or online commerce."

Kaspersky False Positives Quarantine or Kill Windows Explorer in Windows Vista - And Windows XP
Kaspersky has taken a bite out of the core of Windows Vista and Windows XP. Following the release and implementation of faulty signature updates, several versions of the security solutions from the Russian antivirus maker have taken a swing at the heart of Microsoft's Windows client and have managed to take out Windows Explorer. A Kaspersky Lab Certified Personal Security Professional confirmed the issue and the validity of end user reports.
According to the Moscow-based security outfit, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0, Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0, Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 have all been affected by the erroneous signature update. As a direct consequence, Kaspersky started emitting false positives and labeling Windows Explorer in both Windows Vista and Windows XP as infected with Worm.Win32.Huhk.c. In this context, the antivirus either quarantined or completely deleted the Explorer core component of the Windows operating system.
Shvetsov Dmitry, Virus analyst, Kaspersky Lab, promised that the issue would be dealt with. Kaspersky addressed the problem immediately and issued an update design to resolve the problem, acknowledging at the same time that the matter was indeed caused by false positives and that the "explorer.exe" file was not compromised or corrupt in any way. The Worm.Win32.Huhk.c infections were generated by the faulty signatures updates. "Update now, the detection has been fixed. Restore it from the kaspersky 'backup' tab. Its a false positive. Roll back the databases until it is fixed", advised a Kaspersky representative. Kaspersky also provided a workaround for bringing back Windows Explorer, if it were quarantined.
"If you have no icons/taskbar/menus/etc, you can try to restore explorer as follows: Open task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) click on file- New task (run). In the box that pops up, type in the path to your Kaspersky installation and avp.exe. So for example, mine is located at C:Program FilesKaspersky LabKaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0avp.exe. Replace the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0 with whatever version you are running, so for example, it could be Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0; Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0; Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0. Click OK (you will have to repeat this process once more if you have disabled Kaspersky from starting up with Windows, to bring up the Kaspersky interface). Kaspersky main window should pop open. Now, restore from the Kaspersky 'backup' which can be accessed via 'reports and data files' tab – backup", the Kaspersky representative added.

Watch Duke Nukem Forever Teaser Trailer Here!
10 years since we're all waiting... 6 years since the last trailer appeared. Millions of people yelling: "We want Duke Nukem Forever!". 3D Realms finally announced that a teaser trailer will be available today. Joy to the world! The teaser trailer is HERE!
We can't say more than: "Wooooooooow! The Duke is back and looks better than ever!" Smoking his cigar, working out, while alien invaders do crazy things around... it is just pure heaven, something some might have lost hope to live and see. But 3D Realms have just proved that they didn't waste any time (no pun intended) and, with all the problems, we'll have a hell of a game!
The even better thing is that a full trailer is in the works and will hopefully be available really soon for us to see. And when trailers start being released, one thing's certain – the game's development is doing well! I can hardly wait to hear our ol' Duke singing, like back in the old days: "Born to be wiiiiild!" while turning enemies into dirt and sticking a cigar up their arses. Yeah, baby, bring it on!
Want to know exactly the reason we received this incredible teaser trailer? Well... you'll have to thank 3D Realms for holding Christmas parties, since some people working there wanted to prepare a surprise for those at the party and made this teaser trailer for Duke Nukem Forever. The teaser looked so good (...duh!) that everybody agreed it was time to share. And what a Christmas gift we got!
Now, what else can we say than quote the character of the day: "I'm looking for some alien toilet to pack my bricks. Who's first?" Wahoooo! The Duke is younger than ever. Hopefully he still remembers the "Born to be Wild" song I was talking about earlier! Now... enjoy the teaser trailer (download it HERE) and share your opinion!
